Picture Rocks Skatepark — (Tucson, AZ)

Entire View of the Picture Rocks Skatepark

Picture Rocks Skatepark is a 7,500 square foot skatepark located in Marana, Arizona, on the edge of Tucson’s city limits. The park is tucked away behind the Picture Rocks Park and is shared by both skaters and BMX’ers. Skateboarders are entitled to the park on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while bikers are given Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Once you ride the park for the first time, you’ll realize why the park rules are this way. The skatepark’s designers, SITE Systems Design Group, along with the constructors, California Skateparks, built a biker dominant park with all of their own park features throughout.

Upon first entrance as a skateboarder, you’re greeted by a ledge with a step-up that serves as a welcome into the street section. The bottom ledge is perfect for skateboarders to practice their existing tricks and learn new ones, while the top ledge is a bit steep to ollie up from the flat ground. You’ll need a lot of pop to get your trucks up there, it is doable, but designed for bikers. From this feature, you have an A-Frame with a handrail along with a box and a step-up. This feature is a lot of fun, again, you’ll need a lot of pop to get onto the biker features.

The street section is a bit small with only three features, however, the combinations you can create are endless with the creativity the park’s designers put into it. Moving into the long spine bowl and vert section right after hitting the A-Frame, you have a little mogul to speed the pump bumps off of and hit the quarter pipes and spine. Just like the street section, there are endless combinations and flows you can put together in this park. The way it’s set up given the space is really unique and on the bowl section you can go from the pump bumps hitting the spine and quarters as a halfpipe in one direction, switch it up and hit the pool vert in the other.

This park is great for any biker or intermediate+ level skateboarder in the Tucson area. The path to get to the park is very desolate and not many people go here, as a result you’ll be one, if not the only person at the park.

Copper Sky Skatepark — (Maricopa, AZ)

Copper Sky Skate Plaza in Arizona

This skatepark is very “street plaza” in nature, with quite a few obstacles designed and executed to perfection. There is also a short “snake run” that propels skaters out of the obstacle area and back onto the takeoff platform. The Copper Sky Skate Plaza is a concrete skate plaza that will have you skating all day. There are plenty of skate parks in Arizona that offer very similar street plaza style skating, with Snedigar Skate Park, Freestone Skate Park and Cesar Chavez Park being three examples not featured in the article.

Superstition Shadows Skatepark — (Apache Junction, AZ)

Superstition Shadows Skatepark in Arizona

Superstition Shadows Park is a $1,400,000 outdoor concrete skatepark facility that opened its doors to the public on March 1, 2002. This skatepark is one of eight major capital facilities projects completed as part of the Capital Facilities Plan of Apache Junction and is one of many free skateparks in the Phoenix Metro area. Other skateparks in the area such as Freestone Skate Park offer a more vert and deep bowl experience, but Superstition Shadows Skatepark is just as enjoyable and provides locals with hours of free skateboard fun. The large street course on half of the skatepark is awesome! There are all sorts of banks and ledges and rails to try out your tricks. One of the longer rails drops down into the street area from the deck, so be sure to check it out. There’s also a big hip with a curved rail on top, and a ledge section with tiered ledges and a big ledge at the top. Get creative and have some fun! If you’re looking for a fun and challenging skatepark with plenty of transitions, Superstition Shadows Skatepark is the place for you.

Although the snakeruns aren’t as big as those at Gilbert, Chandler or Paradise Valley, they’re still a blast to skate and make up for it with good lines and smooth concrete. This is an excellent park for kids to learn on – admission is free, no pads are required and it’s unsupervised. If you’re looking to skate transition, the Superstition Shadows Skatepark has your fix. The bowled snake runs are filled with smooth concrete and topped with metal coping, making them great for learning new tricks. On the other side of the park is where you’ll find the street section. The street section is comprised of multiple sizes of ledges, rails, and hips, ranging from beginner to advanced. Some of these features offered at the park are very unique to other skate parks, in general, as you’ll see in multiple features such as the step-up on the manual pad with a ledge. Superstition Shadows Skatepark is home to some of the most grindable edges in the area. The metal coping and angle iron are perfect for keeping your grinds looking clean and chunky-free. Plus, the onsite restrooms and fully lit environment make it the perfect place to spend an evening skating.

Sedona Skatepark — (Sedona, AZ)

Sedona Skatepark in Arizona

Sedona Skatepark is one of the most popular spots for skateboarders in the city. It offers a variety of challenging obstacles for experienced riders, as well as a beginner-friendly zone for those just starting out. The park’s landscape that is also popular with BMX riders and rollerbladers while designed with skateboarders in mind, with plenty of rails, ledges, and quarter pipes. Sedona Skatepark is well-maintained with incredible views, ensuring that it is always in great condition for skating, located close to the city center and with plenty of other amenities nearby. SITE Design Group, Inc. was hired to work with the City of Sedona to help evaluate the feasibility of retrofitting their existing skate park to accommodate BMX bike use. It was concluded that since they had an existing skate park, it would be more cost effective to retrofit BMX protection throughout the entire skate park, which in turn saved the city money from designing and building a brand new BMX park. Now skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, and BMX bikes can all enjoy this facility together. The skatepark offers a variety of bowls ranging from the beginner bowl to the kidney bowl in the corner of the park. Sedona skatepark is one of the most popular spots for skateboarders in the city. Overall View of the Best Skate Parks in Arizona

There are many great skateparks in Arizona, and it can be hard to choose the best skatepark. But if you’re looking for a great skatepark that has everything you need, the best option may just be on this list. Two personal favorites have to be the Chandler Skatepark and the Prescott Skatepark. The Chandler Skatepark is a whopping 20,000+ square foot of feet park, making it one of the biggest skateparks in the state. It’s also got a ton of different park features, including a vert ramp, a street course, transition features, and a flow bowl. The other park, Prescott Skatepark, is perfect for beginners, with a beginner-friendly street course and a bowl that’s not too deep. It’s also a great park for families, with a playground and a picnic area right next to the skatepark. My personal favorite niche skatepark in Arizona not made by American Ramp Company, California Skateparks, or Spohn Ranch Skateparks would have to be the little skatepark tucked away in Queen Creek, AZ, Queen Creek Skatepark. This park is plain and simple, it features a flat rail, ledges, and a small bank to kick turn. No deep boomerang bowl like Freestone Park has. Go skate and make one of these top ten skate parks and be sure to support your local skate shop!
