How to Kickturn on a Skateboard

December 31, 2022

In order to do a kickturn on a skateboard, you will need to know how to balance and control your board. Once you have mastered those skills, you will need to learn the proper technique for kicking the board around. With a little practice, you will be able to execute perfect kickturns every time!

What is a kickturn?

A kickturn is a skateboarding trick that is used to change the direction of your skateboard. It is performed by kicking the tail of your skateboard out to the side, and then turning your body in the direction you want to go.

How to prepare for a kickturn

To practice your kickturn, start by finding a spot where you can ride in a straight line. Then, start to turn your board by lifting the tail of the skateboard with your back foot and twisting your shoulders. As you turn, use your front foot as momentum to continue turning. Remember to keep your body facing the direction you are turning, and be sure to practice on both your regular and goofy stances.

Once you feel comfortable with the basic motion of the kickturn, you can start to add some speed. Try turning around an object, like a pole or a curb, and see how quickly you can make the turn. As you get more advanced, you can even try doing kickturns in the air!

To make sure you are safe while practicing your kickturns, be sure to wear the appropriate gear. A helmet, elbow and knee pads, and a good pair of shoes are all essential. And don’t forget to hydrate yourself, especially if you are practicing in hot weather.

Tips for improving your kickturn

There are a few things you can do to improve your kickturn. First, make sure you are turning from the correct spot on the board- usually the middle of the board for most. Second, practice turning until you have it down. And finally, make sure your kickturn is smooth- don’t jerk your board around.

5. The benefits of mastering the kickturn

There are many benefits to mastering the kickturn. Perhaps the most obvious is that it can help you get around more quickly and easily on your skateboard. It can also help you make more fluid turns and get speed off of ramps. Additionally, the better you get at kickturning, the more confident you will be in your skateboarding ability, and the more fun you will have in the parks and on the streets. So, if you want to improve your skateboarding skills, be sure to add the kickturn to your repertoire.
