How to 360 Flip on a Skateboard

April 2, 2023

Skateboarding is a fun and exhilarating sport that requires a lot of skill, patience, and practice. One of the most advanced tricks that skateboarders aim to master is the 360 flip. Also known as the tre flip or a three flip, this trick involves flipping the skateboard 360 degrees while performing a kickflip. The 360 flip is a crowd-pleaser, and once you master it, you will impress your friends and fellow skateboarders. In this blog post, we will guide you through the steps on how to do a 360 flip on a skateboard.

Step 1: Master the Kickflip

Before attempting the 360 flip, it is essential to master the kickflip, which is a basic trick in skateboarding. To do this, start by placing your back foot on the tail of the skateboard and your front foot in the middle of the deck. Then, crouch down and prepare to jump. As you pop the tail of the skateboard, slide your front foot towards the edge of the deck, kicking it out and flipping the board. Make sure to jump high enough to allow the board to complete the full rotation.

Step 2: Foot Placement

Once you have mastered the kickflip, it’s time to work on your foot placement for the 360 flip. Start by positioning your feet in the same way as you would for a kickflip, with your back foot on the tail of the skateboard and your front foot in the middle of the deck. However, instead of sliding your front foot towards the edge of the deck, you need to place it on the heel edge, just behind the front bolts of the skateboard.

Step 3: Pop the Tail

As with the kickflip, pop the tail of the skateboard by pressing down on it with your back foot. This will initiate the flip, and the board will start to rotate.

Step 4: Flick with Your Front Foot

As the board begins to rotate, flick it with your front foot by kicking it outwards towards the side of the board. This will make the skateboard spin horizontally, and if done correctly, it will complete a full 360-degree rotation.

Step 5: Rotate Your Body

As you flick the board, rotate your body 180 degrees towards your front foot. This will help you to catch the board and land back on it once it completes the rotation.

Step 6: Catch the Board

As the board completes the rotation, catch it with your front foot by bringing it back towards the center of the deck. Make sure to keep your eyes on the board and position your feet accordingly to ensure a smooth landing.

Step 7: Land and Roll Away

Once you catch the board, land on it, and roll away smoothly. Keep your balance and continue riding.

Step 8: Practice Consistently

Like any other trick in skateboarding, mastering the 360 flip requires consistency and practice. Start by attempting the trick on a flat surface and gradually progress to performing it on a ramp or obstacle. With time and practice, you will be able to execute the 360 flip with ease.

Tips for Learning the 360 Flip

Here are some tips that can help you learn the 360 flip faster:

  1. Practice the kickflip consistently before attempting the 360 flip. This will help you understand the basics of flipping the board.
  2. Practice flicking the board with your front foot while standing still. This will help you get a feel for the motion.
  3. Focus on your foot placement, ensuring that your front foot is on the heel edge, just behind the front bolts of the skateboard.
  4. Keep your eyes on the board at all times, as this will help you to catch it and land smoothly.
  5. Practice with a spotter. A spotter can help you identify any mistakes you are making and give you feedback on how to improve.
  6. Visualize the trick in your mind before attempting it. This will help you to mentally prepare and understand the sequence of movements required.
  7. Keep your body relaxed and maintain your balance throughout the trick. Tensing up or losing your balance can cause you to fall off the skateboard.
  8. Don’t give up if you don’t get it right away. The 360 flip is an advanced trick, and it may take some time to master. Keep practicing, and you will get there eventually.

Conclusion

The 360 flip is a challenging but rewarding trick to master in skateboarding. By following the steps and tips outlined in this blog post, you can learn how to execute the trick with ease. Remember to practice consistently, focus on your foot placement and flick, and visualize the trick in your mind before attempting it. With time and practice, you will be able to add the 360 flip to your arsenal of skateboarding tricks and impress your friends and fellow skateboarders.
